Superintendent’s Message – July 4, 2015

My name is Karen Janney and I am proud to be the superintendent of the Sweetwater Union High School District!

A proud resident of the Sweetwater District for nearly 50 years, my personal connections with the community run as deeply as do my professional ones. As a product of Sweetwater schools, I have experienced first hand the richness of this community. In addition to my four siblings who graduated from Sweetwater, I have nieces and nephews who have graduated from our district recently and approximately 15 more who will enter Sweetwater middle schools over the next few years.

I worked in Sweetwater for 31 years as a teacher, assistant principal, middle school principal, high school principal and assistant superintendent. The past five years I served as an executive coach with the National Center for Urban School Transformation and lecturer in the Educational Leadership Department at San Diego State University.

During my first two weeks back in Sweetwater I observed the dedication, resiliency, and commitment of staff that keeps our focus on students. As well, I have seen evidence of strong involvement from parents and community members. Together with the Board of Trustees, we are determined to continue that work and intend to expand our community partnerships.

My goal as superintendent is to serve and support all stakeholders, including students, staff, families and community members, in order to accomplish the district’s vision of 100% student success.

In the thoughts of one of my favorite leaders, Ken Blanchard, “…none of us is as smart as all of us…and none of us can do this alone.”

Please join us as we work together to move Sweetwater forward “putting students first.”

Sincerely,

Karen Janney, Ed.D.
